چکیده

This mini review describes the results regarding the voltammetric determination of micromolar, submicromolar and nanomolar concentrations of various fluoroquinolones antibacterial agents using both traditional hanging mercury drop electrode, carbon paste electrode, glassy carbon paste electrode and chemically modified electrodes. We concentrate on the interaction of quinolones with DNA in solution and at electrode surface in the context of the general development

Application of ZrO2–SO3H as highly efficient recyclable nano-catalyst for the green synthesis of fluoroquinolones as potential antibacterial

Various antibacterial fluoroquinolone compounds were prepared by the direct amination of 7-halo-6- fluoroquinolone-3-carboxylic acids with variety of piperazine derivatives and (4aR,7aR)-octahydro-1H-pyrrolo[3,4-b] pyridine using Zirconia Sulfuric Acid (ZrSA) nanoparticle, as a catalyst in refluxing water. The results showed that ZrSA exhibited high catalytic activity towards the synthesis of f...

Synthesis and In-vitro Antibacterial Activities of Acetylanthracene and Acetylphenanthrene Derivatives of Some Fluoroquinolones

Novel analogues of N-piperazinyl fluoroquinolones were prepared and evaluated against a panel of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, to study the effect of introducing bulky anthracene and phenanthrene moieties on the antibacterial effects of norfloxacin, ciprofloxacin and gatifloxacin. Although most of the novel synthesized compounds had lower antibacterial effects, some derivatives show...

Mycobacterium tuberculosis DNA gyrase as a target for drug discovery.

Bacterial DNA gyrase is an important target of antibacterial agents, including fluoroquinolones. In most bacterial species, fluoroquinolones inhibit DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV and cause bacterial cell-death. Other naturally occurring bacterial DNA gyrase inhibitors, such as novobiocin, are also known to be effective as antibacterial agents. DNA gyrase is an ATP-dependent enzyme that acts b...

The results showed that ZrSA exh...

DNA topoisomerase targets of the fluoroquinolones: a strategy for avoiding bacterial resistance.

Fluoroquinolones are antibacterial agents that attack DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV on chromosomal DNA. The existence of two fluoroquinolone targets and stepwise accumulation of resistance suggested that new quinolones could be found that would require cells to obtain two topoisomerase mutations to display resistance. For wild-type cells to become resistant, the two mutations must be acquired...
